This Is My Passion

This Is My Passion

I'm a Director of Photography and a Colorist based out of Fresno, Ca. I'm fortunate to get to work with some of the best talent in a 100 mile radius. I get to work full time for Windsong Productions doing what I love to do every day. I also work outside of their scope doing weddings, short films, feature films and other video projects. For the last several years I've been working in 4K+ workflows, shooting and finishing film in the Central Valley.

I own a fair amount of equipment, so I can be a complete package for most of my smaller projects. I love traveling, shooting new and different things, being out in the "wild". Every shoot it its own challenge, and I love figuring out how best I can accomplish what needs to be done.

I'm currently seeking opportunities for feature films and short films. Taking on new and different challenges is the way I try to stay current in todays ever changing industry. I enjoy taking someones vision and breathing life into it with beautiful imagery, that is where my true passion lies.

History

History

I've been shooting and editing since 2004. Worked for many companies along the way, learned as much as I could. I started Motion Picture Weddings with Josiah Thiesen and also freelanced for many years. Over time Josiah and I grew apart, he had to follow his passion in directing, now he is off directing documentaries, children's ebooks, and other crazy adventurous projects. I started working full time for Windsong in June of 2011. The rest is history.

Contact Kyle Gentz

My office is located in Fresno, CA. If you would like to discuss your next video project, send me an email, text or call me up by phone. Since I'm always on set I may not be able to respond right away but I'll try my best to get back to you ASAP. Video Production in Fresno has never looked so good! (haha ok that was a cheesy line, like most my jokes)

Rent Fresno’s Most Organized Cargo Grip Van Truck.

Renting a Grip and Electric Van in Fresno is a great experience. I can provide any video production with cstands, rags, combos, beefy babys, HMI lighing, Kino Flo lighting, LED BI-Color battery lights and tungsten fixtures. Also Rent Flags, apple boxes, other grip gear and much more. My van has evolved, and as most people know. I tinker with it, a ton. Most grips and gaffers I work with all the time get mad at me because I keep changing it on them. But hey, I say if its better, get over yourself. There are not a ton of grip trucks here in Fresno, so to be the most organized is only putting them up to 3 other people’s rigs. But efficiency is something I’m passionate about. I hate wasted time. Always room for improvement. Something else I’m learning, no matter how much you label you gear, people refuse to read labels.

The way I am trying to design the Van is this, things you use 100% of the time, should be the easiest to get to and put away. The quicker you can load/unload the easier its on me to get setup and get the shot.

Side load, or Slider Door.

Derick and David Carr EECU Commercial Studio Shoot in Fresno

One of the most fast paced Fresno video productions ive been on to date. We only had the Carr brother for a limited time. We had to shoot 3 commercials in one day, so we shot two cameras and did ton of pre-production. We had a ton of fun, We also had to build a set for one of the commercials. Fresno can be hard to find people who know how to build sets, but he had Tim from ReViveIndustries build our set. Tim did a fantastic job. Tim and I assembled the last few pieces and I painted and floated the walls. We built a speed rail grid, Ian (My gaffer) came in the day before and we pre-lit the set. Here are some photos.

Film Hazers are my new Beer.

So, I started a diet and now I need to replace beer and its glory. Since all Alcohol is sugary and bad for you, I decided to use a hazer on my next shoot. Still hasn’t helped those cravings. (yeah I know my jokes are bad)

Anyway Best results were just leaving in on in the other room. Just constantly pumping. And when we did sound we kicked it off for the takes. But kept a very constant atmosphere. We used a HZ500 Haze Machine.  I’m new to hazers, I’ve used fog machines and had similar experience. The Hazer made it easy. The only time it looked like smoke is when people turned the fans on. Also on really big rooms. It can take up to 20-30 mins to fill with the “other room” trick. It seems to fill more evenly just at a slow pace. We set up the Hazer first then began to light. Seemed to work out for us.

The photo above is a cheap fog machine from Party City, look at the next few photos to see a difference in the way it looks. Pretty neat.

The power of ultra floppies!

Can I just say wow? a Gaffer by the name of Skott Khuu out of Irvine, Ca (who worked on the Flooring Liquidators Commercials I did) told me that ultra floppies are amazing, and YES THEY ARE. I took his word and I bought two from Modern Studios and now I have an instant 8×8 ultra bounce. Very quick to set up and easy to move. I love it. b

Side note, some guys call them ultra flops. Also, you can use speed rail to make the bottoms not so damn floppy.
Stupid wind.

DYI Mirror Board 1×1

So, I find it aggravating that you can never find very specific DIY build of film equipment that I want to make so I can save money on not buying the real thing. I know? Why isnt someone out there ready to answer all my questions.

So I built this with wood scraps from my dads wood shop and a baby pin. My cost, 4 Dollars, for the 5/8 baby pin. Made a wood frame and used a ton of glue on the back of the mirror on the plywood, so now if someone breaks it, hopefully it will not spill everywhere and make a mess. I used Gaff tape on the bevel because it was making weird light casts. Now I can harness the power of the sun. Who needs an HMI anyway? right?

Stereoscopic 3d with two RED EPIC DRAGONS

Um, this was pretty simple, all we did was shoot on a green screen, use about 2575watts of HMI power for a key, shoot 60fps @ 4K, I made an aluminum plate to make both cameras sit perfectly aligned, and made a cool video. The pity is that I don’t have a copy of it to post.
